Weekend in Tallinn

Last weekend we celebrated my friends birthday in Tallinn. My parents used to live in that city when I was a teenager and back then I used to to go there all the time. Now it had been years since I last went there and I totally realized I have to go there more often :)

I really love the old town of Tallin link. It's not a suprise that it's listed in the world heritage UNESCO "Tallinn is an outstanding and exceptionally complete and well preserved example of a medieval northern European trading city".

I also like the citys architecture in general. I have seen the city develope in the last 15 years and there are so many interesting combinations of new and old houses standing side by side.

Below are some of my phone snap shots. I'm totally being the tourist :)

Framed paintings

I just got frames for two paintings. I had a lot of fun picking the frames for these. It's like being in a candy store :)

The frameshop was this: http://www.saraheina.fi/
I highly recommend this frameshop, they have a large variety of frames and you can also order special frames. A very nice and professional shop :)

ibify logo design

I recently made some graphics for a new android application called "ibify". The application is a free geolocation based photo service. You can watch photos popup on the map in realtime from around the world and follow live-galleries from events as they unfold. It's easy to share your photos instantly. Each uploaded photo is public and contains the images exact location.

Shared images will popup instantly on the www.ibify.com website and the Ibify mobile application.

Below is the logo I made for the application. The client wanted me to use an ibis bird as a reference. The logo can be used in blue, black and red.

Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School 28.12.2011 Helsinki

Yesterday I was again at a Dr. Sketchy drawing session in Helsinki. The evening was called "Dr. Sketchy Does Mother Russia!". I had a lot of fun drawing... I'm afraid this time I was drinking more than drawing. Maybe next time I drink less and draw more ;)

Below is a picture of me and my tipsy drawings.
My fabulous dress was from bettiepageclothing.com
Dr Sketchy Finland website:  drsketchysuomi.com
Model of the evening was Bettie Blackheart: www.bettieblackheart.com

Great grandfather

My great grandfather is sort of "online". He was a while in the finish parliament, so there is a short record of him. It's nice to know a little bit about your ancestors. I know very little about them.

News article about Kamuko logo

There was a news article about me and the Kamuko (Karkkila music school) logo. I just scanned it. Article appeared 30.11.2011 in "Ykkös-Lohja" newspaper.

Logo design for a music school

I recently took up a nice little logo project. The client was a music school from a nearby town called Karkkila (english translation is actually somewhat "candy town"). I started having cute images in my head the moment I heard about the project. A music logo for "candy town", how nice is that? I had candy shaped logos in my mind...but those were a bit too silly to actually do...

My approach was to have some musical symbols for the logo...notes and/or instruments. Although I had abandoned the candy shapes I chose pink for the colour. I dared to do so, because the logo of Karkkila is pink too.
...so that made sense.

I made the guitar logo and the note logos first. The client liked the guitar logo, but that could not be chosen because it represent one form of music too much. What about the piano players and other musicians? A pure music note was already more it, but still too boring.

So, then I was thinking of some universal symbols that represents music in all forms. I came up with the idea of a bird. I kind of fell in love with the bird logo myself (never fall in love with your own ideas, let the client decide!!!). Sadly the client saw too much of a birdwatcher in it, so we had to skip the bird....

The color changed from pink to blue. The logo was supposed to be printed on T-shirts, so it had to be neutral and not too girly.
A one coloured logo seemed a bit plain to me so I used an additional lighter blue for the logo.

After some brainstorming with the client we abandoned the bird logo for good and eventually the final logo turned out to be this "love for music" logo.
I'm happy with the end results, it's not pink but it's still cute, but not in a too girly way. The "love for music" logo suits a small town music school perfectly ;)

Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School 14.10.2011 Helsinki

There was a Dr. Sketchy drawing session last night here in Helsinki. I was very eager to go there :) it's been a few years since I attended a sketchy session...

I attended my first Dr. Sketchy session in 2008 when the founder of Dr. Sketchy's "Molly Crabapple" arranged one of the first sketchy sessions in Finland (Helsinki Art Nights 2008/Kiasma). Molly told the audience that she founded Dr. Sketchy because she had beend a life drawing model in academic art schools. In respected art schools the model is often trieted rather cold. Artist draw the model when he/she is sitting for a pose but during the models breaks it happens very often that nobody dares to talk to the model. People probably think it's "polite" to not talk to the nude model, but to the model it comes across quite cold. The model is eventually just an object for the academic drawing session.

Molly wanted to have a change in this...she wanted the model to be the star of the session. So in Dr. sketchys drawings sessions the model is always cheered at and the whole drawing session is not supposed to be too serious. People can talk and have a drink while drawing and you don't have to be a professional artist to participate in the drawing. The main thing is to respect the model and have fun.

To see more what Dr. Sketchy is about see the Dr. Sketchy website.

Below are a few of my drawings. They are not very good, since I was somewhat "tipsy" from sparkling wine ;)
The models were mainly ladies from the famous Itty-Bitty burlesque's group.

The first drawing was done in 2-3 minutes, for the second one I had somewhat 5 minutes.

Here are a few photos from the evening taken by Ruska Schöneberg. See the Dr. Sketchy Facebook page for more photos and nice drawings.Models in these photos are Kitty Litter and Olivia Q.

New drawing: old clown

I did this drawing today. I felt like drawing something else than halfnaked girls.
